This article elaborates on existing research pertaining to the grief process. It focuses on the dynamics and effect of grieving. Grief is experienced differently by different individuals. The aim of the article is to search for ways in which people can exist with authenticity and hope in the presence of God in spite of the experience of loss. Three issues are addressed: the circumstances of grief; the influence of people’s God-images on the grief process; as well as the traditional viewpoint on the phases and emotions connected with the grief process and an alternative perspective. The article highlights the dynamics and diversity of experiences in the grief process.
