May ‘whites only!’ worship here?
This is the first of a two-part study in which an assessment is made of the arguments prohibiting people of colour from attending regular Sunday services in the Nederduitsch Hervormde KerL Under the present heading the historical background that gave rise to the exclusivist measures is investigated and the arguments for maintaining these measures in the present are evaluated. The study argues that Jesus’ instruction to proclaim the message of God’s saving grace to the world may not be curtailed by measures excluding anybody from the opportunity to hear that message whenever it is preached.
