Abstract

The last book to be unpacked
Afrikaans poetry has been extensively influenced by the Bible. The works of all the most important Afrikaans poets have connections with the Bible in one way or another. As a matter of fact, the development of Afrikaans, the instrument of the poet, has been significantly influenced the Afrikaans translation of the Bible. Believing Afrikaans poets are not the only ones that have been influenced by the Bible, as we can see in the work of Leipoldt, neither do only Protestant Afrikaans poets manifest Biblical involvement. Roman Catholic poets have made important contributions to Afrikaans poetry by means of biblical intertextuality.
